Today, January 11th 2012 is marked as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and thus the secret it out. There will be no more "shhh" this topic is taboo to bring up in church, with your kids, in schools. We cannot say we did not know. We now have no excuse.
International Justice Mission's Gary Haugen says, "Nothing happens just because we are aware, but nothing will ever happen until we are."
So what is going to happen? I guess that's just what each one of us has to figure out and decide. As for me, I am going to go eat some frozen yogurt at a local shop who is giving 15% of their profits to fight human trafficking. That's today, tomorrow...who knows.
Lets use this trend in awareness as a cause to action. Talk about it. Tweet about it. Cry. Eat ice cream.
Lets work toward the day when we no longer need to mark "Human Trafficking Awareness Day" on our calendar. Ever again.
